Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis: A Deep Dive into the Gacha System
If you're a die-hard fan of the Final Fantasy series and gacha games, you've probably heard of Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis.
In this article, we're going to dive into the game's gacha system, which has left beta players both curious and excited.
So let's get to it!
Note: This is based on the closed beta, the release version could be different (and we'll update it if that's the case!).
Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis: A Deep Dive into the Gacha System
Introduction to the Gacha System
At the heart of Ever Crisis lies a gacha system that stands out from the norm.
This isn't your typical gacha game where you pull for characters.
While we find shades of other familiar gacha systems like Final Fantasy Record Keeper, Ever Crisis brings its own flavor to the table. The system has its own set of rules, rewards, and strategies, making it a fresh experience for both new and veteran gamers.
What It's Not: Character Pulling
Ever Crisis takes a different route when it comes to character acquisition.
Here's the twist: the gacha system is not focused around acquiring characters. As you immerse yourself in the game's story, characters naturally become a part of your journey.
So, while you might be tempted to pull for your favorite character, the game ensures they join you by just playing (for free!).
Focus on Weapon and Gear
Instead of characters, the gacha is focused on weapons and gear.
Your pulls will determine the weapons and equipment of your characters, influencing their power in battles.
The most important thing when pulling in FFVII: Ever Crisis is obtaining 5-star weapons.
5-star weapons unlock a weapon's true potential by changing its ability, like increasing damage, adding debuffs, or enabling AoE attacks. Dupes of 5-star weapons further increase their power through the limit break system.
While the story provides a 3-star Buster Sword, focus on obtaining the 5-star version as soon as possible. The 5-star Buster Sword's ability changes to deal more damage, increasing Cloud's power significantly (same with other 5-star Cloud weapons).
While aiming for 5-stars, 4-star weapons are still useful.
4-star weapons provide stat boosts and can be limit broken into 5-stars over time using tickets from dupes. Equip 4-star weapons in sub slots for stat boosts and future use.
Consider leveling 4-star weapons for characters you will eventually build.
The Stamp System Explained
The game introduces players to the "Stamp System." This is where the gacha magic happens.
With distinct tabs like "Special," "Stamps 1," "Stamps 2," and "Tickets," players navigate their pulls and rewards.
But the real game-changer is the sixth stamp. Acting as a form of a pity system, this stamp grants players a featured weapon of their choice.
But here's where it gets even more interesting: you might not need to pull six times to secure this stamp. Depending on your luck and the banner's stamp odds, you could secure that overpowered weapon sooner than you think!
You should only complete the first page of a stamp sheet banner. The first page guarantees the featured 5-star weapon on the 6th stamp and 5-star gear on the 12th stamp. 5-star gear provides stat boosts and new abilities.
Do not pull past the 12th stamp unless the featured character is a main character. Save for other banners instead.
Boost Your Pull Odds
The gacha system in Ever Crisis offers a unique feature that players can leverage to their advantage: the ability to select and boost the odds for specific gear.
You can handpick up to five pieces of gear on a banner. By doing so, you can significantly increase the chances of acquiring those items during your pulls.
If you've set your sights on a particular weapon for Cloud, you can prioritize it, raising its drop rate from a 0.02% to a more favorable 0.8%.
This approach allows you to target and build up specific characters to boost your gameplay experience.
The Animation Hints
Here's a fun tidbit.
Every pull in Ever Crisis is preceded by an animation featuring Cloud battling an Iron Giant.
But did you know that this isn't just for dramatic effect? The animation provides subtle hints about the pull's outcome.
If Cloud dodges the giant's attack and counters with a specific damage number, like 77777, it might mean a special or high-starred gear pull.
On the other hand, a counter-attack with a damage of 4200 might indicate a three-star item.
While the exact correlation between animation and pull outcome is still being deciphered by fans, seasoned players have started spotting these patterns, making pulls even more exciting.
Tickets in the Game
In addition to the traditional pull system, Ever Crisis introduces "tickets."
As players progress in the game, they earn these valuable tickets.
While the exact mechanics of ten-pull vs. single-pull ticket benefits remain unkown, you should keep an eye on the ticket tab. It provides opportunities for additional pulls, and as every seasoned gacha player knows, every pull counts!
Character-specific tickets have a much higher chance of dropping 5-star weapons for that character.
For example, Cloud tickets have a 0.9% chance of dropping a 5-star weapon compared to the standard banner's 0.1% chance.
Final Thoughts
As with any gacha system, luck plays a significant role.
However, with strategies and an understanding of the system, players can optimize their pulls.
I'm pretty impressed by the gacha system in Ever Crisis, so let's hope it stays this way when the release comes out!
