How Does Honkai: Star Rail Gacha System Work?
Honkai: Star Rail employs a gacha system as its primary method for players to acquire new Characters and Light Cones.
This system is the only way to secure the highest rarity Characters and Light Cones (although there are other ways to get good five-star Light Cones).
The Way Honkai: Star Rail Gacha System Works
Warping Your Way to Greater Power
In Honkai: Star Rail, gacha banners are referred to as Warps. The process of rolling on the gacha is named 'warping', for which you need Stellar Jades or Passes/Special Passes. Stellar Jades serve as the gacha currency, while Passes and Special Passes are essentially gacha tickets.
1 Pass or 1 Special Pass can be exchanged for 160 Stellar Jades. While Passes are used on the Beginner Warp and Standard Warp, Special Passes are reserved for the Limited Character Warp and Limited Light Cone Warp. These currencies can be earned from various game activities like missions, events, and certain shops.
A warp can yield a variety of items:
- 3★, 4★, and 5★ Light Cones
- 4★ and 5★ Characters
The number of stars means the rarity of the Character or Light Cone. The higher the number of stars, the greater the rarity and the more hard it is to obtain.
There's also a 4★ Guarantee mechanism in place. If you fail to secure a 4★ Character or Light Cone after 9 warps, the 10th warp guarantees a 4★ item. This counter resets every time a 4★ Character or Light Cone is obtained.
Undying Embers & Undying Starlights
Unique to Honkai: Star Rail are two in-game currencies, Undying Embers and Undying Starlights, which are exclusively attainable through warping. These currencies can be used in the Embers Exchange and Starlight Exchange to purchase Passes, Special Passes, upgrade mats, and other stuff.
Every time you get a 3★ Light Cone from warping, you receive 20 Undying Embers. Undying Starlights, on the other hand, can be obtained by securing any 4★ or 5★ Light Cone, or obtaining duplicate 4★ or 5★ Characters.
It is important to note that you will not receive any Undying Starlights when you pull a 4 Star or 5 Star Character that you do not already own for the first time.
Deep Dive into the Warp Types
There are several types of Warps, each with its unique characteristics and offerings.
Departure Warp
The Departure Warp allows a player to warp only 50 times but guarantees one 5★ Character within these attempts.
This warp permits only multiple warps of 10 at a time, known as ten-pull or multi-pull. Additionally, it offers a 20% discount on every warp, costing only 8 Passes instead of 10. The rates for pulling a 5★ and 4★ Character from this banner are set at 0.6% and 5.1%, respectively.
There is no increase in the rate for any character or Light Cone on this Warp.
The Departure Warp can yield one of the following 5★ Characters: Bailu, Bronya, Clara, Gepard, Himeko, Welt, Yanqing.
Stellar Warp
Similar to the Departure Warp, the Stellar Warp does not offer increased rates for any character or Light Cone. You can only pull with Passes in this banner.
This warp enables players to obtain both 5★ Characters and Light Cones.
The rates for pulling a 5★ Character and 4★ Character from this banner are set at 0.3% and 5.1%, respectively.
A 5★ Character or a 5★ Character Light Cone is guaranteed within 90 pulls (pity), and after 300 pulls, players have the luxury of picking one 5★ available in the banner.
Character Event Warp
In a Character Event Warp, one 5★ Character and three 4★ Characters are featured. You can only pull with Special Passes in this banner.
The chances of pulling a 5★ and 4★ Character from this banner are set at 0.6% and 5.1%, respectively.
The unique aspect of this warp is that once a 5★ Character is pulled, there's a 50% likelihood of it being the rate-up one. A 5★ Character is guaranteed within 90 pulls (pity).
If you're unlucky, it will take you at most 180 pulls to get the rate-up character.
Light Cone Event Warp
The Light Cone Event Warp features one 5★ Light Cone and three 4★ Light Cones. You can only pull with Special Passes in this banner.
The rates for pulling a 5★ and 4★ Light Cone from this banner are set at 0.8% and 6.6%, respectively.
Once a 5★ Light Cone is pulled, there's a 75% chance of it being the rate-up one. A 5★ Light Cone is guaranteed within 80 pulls (pity).
If you're unlucky, it will take you at most 160 pulls to get the rate-up Light Cone.
