Solon's Strengths
Top-Tier Ultimate: Acts first and raises the potency of a single ally by 100% for 1 turn, also grants Damage Limit Up (up to 50,000) for 1 turn. This effect does not stack with similar types and cannot be extended. Should be used during breaks and on characters with multi-hit skills, as it's easy to reach damage cap. If you pair a U10 Solon with Primrose EX, you could use his ultimate twice during a single break.
Combo works like this:
- Solon Ultimate (turn 1)
- Primrose EX Ultimate (turn 1)
- Boost Lv. 3 or higher with Solon's keeper (turn 2)
- Solon Ultimate (turn 2)
Continuous 3-Hit Skill: From the turn after Flying Flamelance is used, deal elemental Fire damage to a random enemey 3 times once per turn (turns: 2-5 based on boost). Also exploits polearm weakness (damage calculation based on elemental Fire attack). Works similar to W'ludai and Herminia's skills, but it hits three times per turn instead.
Buff/Debuff Passives: Solon permanently has 30% EAtk up, and when breaking an enemy, imparts EDef Down by 10% and lowers Polearm and Fire resistance by 10% each for 3 turns.
Powerful Countdown Skill: Although more niche, Ambushing Flamelance deals a powerful AOE Fire nuke up to 600% potency. The catch: it will be casted at the end of the fourth turn after using this skill. If you use this skill again when the countdown is still active, it will reset and won't be casted twice.
Solon's Weaknesses
Hard to Time: His continuous and countdown skills are hard to time with the enemy's break. It requires careful planning when shaving shields. If you're going blind against an enemy, Solon might not be a good choice for max damage output.
Non-Universal Buffing Skill: Flamelance Formation imparts front row with 20% EAtk up and raised Polearm and Fire damage by 20% each. Amazing for a fire team but lacks PAtk up for a spear team, making it a worse skill compared to Richard's active buff Torrent Formation.
Combust-Oriented Skill Set: His other skills are somewhat tied to Combust. If he's not in a team where Combust is key, his effectiveness is limited.
Characters Who Shine Alongside Solon
Solon works best in a Fire or a Spear-focused team.
Some units that benefit from his skillset are Fire/Spear DPS characters like Krauser/Roland/Leon and Cyrus/Molu/Alaune/Frederica, who complement Solon's strengths.
Also, as mentioned before, EX Primrose can be a game changer to use Solon's ultimate twice in a break.
Best Equipment for Solon
Solon is a decent fire DPS and a top-tier support unit via his ultimate.
If you want him as a fire DPS, you should focus on a EAtk Grimoire Fortune Weapon for Orsterra content.
For Hell content, you should focus on a tome that maximizes damage against hellfiends.
However, if you're only using Solon to buff your DPS, the weapon you choose doesn't matter much. Focus on survivability stats for harder battles via soul weapons/accessories/pets.
Awakening Stone Priority
Solon is a unit that needs U10 to properly shine, so prioritizing his ultimate is key.
His A4 accessory, Wool Cloak of Fire, raises fire damage by 15% and cause all enemies to combust for 3 turns at the start of battle. It also boosts EAtk by 80, Speed by 40 and SP by 20. It's a nice stat stick but definitely not game-changing.
For the most efficient upgrade strategy, you should prioritize: U10 → A4
Should you Pull for Solon?
Solon is a valuable addition to most team compositions thanks to his amazing ultimate skill.
Also, you can get Solon's keeper White Sheep for 3,000 Awakening Shards if you have him in your roster.
He shares pity (4.5k rubies) with Nephti, a top-tier apothecary that has been extremely buffed in the global version.
Both units are hard to skip, and if you have a decent ruby stash, you should aim for both while we wait for Elrica/Alaune EX.
